Alexia Solomonidou joined Future Worlds Center in June 2015 as a Community Service Officer for the UNHCR funded project Strengthening Asylum.
Her main duties are: assisting in developing ways in which refugee community involvement can be increased and their community representation can be strengthened. She is currently working on to develop ways in which women can be more empowered and be involved in decision making process. She also provides information, advice, and guidance to asylum seekers and refugees in group sessions as well as through one-on-one meetings, and intervene on their behalf with the authorities as necessary and appropriate. She is responsible in organizing the volunteer group in order to promote voluntary help and contribution to asylum seekers and refugees of all ages.
Short Bio
Alexia has studied Social Work at the Technological Educational Institute of Patra where she graduated in 2008. She is currently a master’s student at the University of Frederick in Social Work and Social Administration. She has extensive experience in domestic violence issues, provision of support and consultation. She organizes workshops and seminars for various groups, such as parents, volunteers, etc.
